The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the United Kingdom might have reached peak pizza while expanding the company into poultry items has been removed after conflicts with its directors.
The former CEO is leaving after only 24 months in leadership, and will be succeeded on an interim basis by the company's chief operating officer, Frampton, while Domino's seeks a new leader.
The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for more than two decades, had attempted to shift Britain's largest pizza food delivery firm towards chicken offerings, remarking recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the British pizza industry. He observed poultry was the quickest rising protein in the international market.
Reports indicate that there was disagreement between the CEO and the board over his approach and direction, although the company's official statement said he was leaving “through mutual consent”.
In the autumn, Domino's introduced its poultry offering – which Rennie referred to as a “major strategic shift” for the company – and is piloting it in over 200 locations in the North West region and Northern Ireland.
While the business is still planning to expand it across its nearly 1,400 branches in 2026 as scheduled, it considers chicken products as complementary to its main pizza offerings.
Bull, the Domino's chairman, commented: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to drive further growth and performance improvement in Domino's core business. We are prioritizing identifying the right chief executive to lead the systematic rollout of that development approach.”
Earlier this month, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said sales dipped by one and a half percent in the Q3. In August, it alerted that the quick-service industry had “become tougher” as it attributed weaker consumer confidence in the period before the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a 15% drop in interim earnings.
Rival chains are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut revealed the closing of 68 restaurants a recently, after the company behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.
Adapting to customer preferences towards healthier eating, Domino's has launched light items, such as its thin-crust selection of bakes below 400 kcals as well as vegan and wheat-free options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 kcals. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a individual has 909 calories.
Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and was formerly with the gaming group William Hill. It is understood that she is not seeking to occupy the CEO position permanently.
Frampton stated: “Our team has a several current expansion and performance initiatives that we will be dedicated to carrying out at pace.”
Frampton noted these comprised ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and product development, and its rewards program.
Domino's is also lacking a long-term finance director until 16 March, when Andrea starts from the Irish cider and beer maker a well-known firm. For now, Snow serves as temporary CFO.
