Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior representative commented the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
